After 3 months of intensive developement, we are happy to announce the availability of Maps Marker Pro v4.21. This release includes an update to the “engine” of our plugin – Leaflet.js as major highlight.
Unfortunately we also had to remove Algolia from our geocoding framework, as Algolia discontinued their related service (only if you chose Algolia as your geocoding provider, you will need to switch to another geocoding provider, details can be found on the related tutorial pages – if you use TomTom, LocationIQ or Google Geocoding, no action is required.).
For details and other highlights about this release please see below.
An updated to the latest version is – as always – highly recommended. If you access to updates and support has expired, please click here for more information on how to optionally renew your access. Although your license key never expires, unless you renew your access to updates and support, you will not be able to get plugin updates including new features, optimizations, bug and security fixes, translations updates as well as access to our helpdesk with dedicated 1:1 support. Therefore we always recommend updating to the latest version of Maps Marker Pro.
Maps Marker Pro uses the open source mapping framework Leaflet.js. Until v4.20.4 we had to use the older leaflet.js v1.6.0, as v1.7.0 had some issues with Safari browser resulting in popups not opening correctly, which was finally fixed with v1.8.0 released in April 2022.
Furthermore lots of under-the-hood optimisations, changes and fixes have been added, reassuring Leaflet.js as the best javascript mapping framework in our opinion. For a full list of changes since v1.6.0 please see the leaflet.js changelog.
Unfortunately Algolia Places sunset its free geocoding service – also used in Maps Marker Pro – on May 31st 2022. This decision was made back in 2020 by Algolia – for more details please check their product blog.
As Algolia Places was the default (keyless) geocoding provider in Maps Marker Pro & unless you actively used TomTom, LocationIQ or Google Geocoding as geocoding provider, you now need to switch to another (keybased) geocoding provider, if you want to continue using the geocoding feature in Maps Marker Pro.
Maps Marker Pro is the only WordPress mapping plugin with an integrated geocoding framework, which allows you to choose from different geocoding provider – selecting the one that best fits your needs.
As you might have noticed, we have a new logo and a new website too.
Your feedback is welcome – especially if anything is not working or missing (we plan to add new content to our knowledge base more regularly in the future).
Together with the website relaunch, we also launched an email newsletter which allows you to keep updated with Maps Marker Pro news. Click here to sign up.
The demo/showcases page has also been updated on our new website:
In case you would like to see your map there too, please get in contact.
When using the list of markers, you can now set the new option “Open popup and zoom” as action for the marker when clicked in the list:
Maps Marker Pro also supports multi-lingual maps by using the WPML or polylang translation plugins (tutorial).
With v4.29 we also added support for translating marker links, as requested by some users.
Thanks to 210+ translators this release also includes 16 updated translations, see full changelog for details.
