We are happy to announce v4.7 which focuses on codebase refactorization and optimization as major highlights.
Additionally we added support for GPX extensions and also fixed some bugs reported by users – for more details please see below.
An updated to the latest version is – as always – highly recommended.
If you are a developer by yourself, you might know the following comic displaying the difference between what you see on backend vs how the backend or code actually looks:
Before Maps Marker Pro v4.0 was released (and Thorsten joined our team), the focus of our code was to be functional, but it was not pretty and not fully following coding best practices. With the development of v4.0 starting in 10/2017 we began the process of optimizing our backend code in order to be able to remove dirty workarounds, improve code quality, remove redundances and to be able to deliver releases more quickly. This process called refactoring is actually never finished & with v4.7 we focused again on optimizing our codebase, especially our PHP classes. Unless you inspect our code, those optimizations will not be visible for you though 😉
v4.7 allows you to add GPX extensions to your gpx files in order to customize the appearance of your tracks:
For code examples, please have a look at the related user guide in our knowledge base.
KML map exports now also use custom icons (again), as requested by users. In order to view your maps in Google Earth, just use the KML export icon in the map panel:
Example visualisation in Google Earth:
Before v4.7 you needed to tick a checkbox, if your map was used in a tab – with the optimizations in v4.7, this is not necessary anymore and maps will work as designed out of the box, even if used in tabs.
